Covid-19 vaccine Covishield reaches Bhubaneswar, vaccination to start from Jan 16

There is good news for the state as the first consignment of Covid-19 vaccine, Covishield dispatched from Serum Institute of India arrived in Bhubaneswar on January 12 afternoon.

The consignment of vaccine landed at Biju Patnaik International Airport in a special SpiceJet flight.

“Odisha is fully prepared with an elaborate system for seamless vaccination programme to save precious lives, with focus on frontline health workers including Anganwadi workers,” Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said.

The Covid-19 vaccination will start from January 16 and Odisha government has identified 160 session sites for the vaccination programme.

The first stage of vaccination will include over 3 lakh health workers and other frontline workers. In the second stage, those above 50 years of age, and those below 50 years of age with comorbidities or with high risk of infection, will be vaccinated.

Mayurbhanj has the highest number of sites at 10, while Cuttack, Ganjam and Puri districts will have 8 sites each, as per the government statement.
