The 3rd National Chilika Bird Festival is being held from January 8 to January 10 in Asia’s largest saltwater lake.
Mangalajodi, situated in the north eastern Part of Chilika is known as the “Birds Paradise of Asia” as lakhs of winged guests from all over the world throng the bird sanctuary during the winter, according to description available on the Odisha Tourism website.
The variety of habitats in the Island such as mudflats, floating and submerged vegetation, reed-beds, open waters with varying depth and salinity attract a variety of migratory and resident bird species.
“It is an experience of a lifetime to be with the winged guests in this birds’ paradise during winter,” Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said in his verified Twitter handle.
The census earlier this week revealed a record presence of about 11.4 lakhs of wintering guest in its body, which is more than 11 lakh that was estimated last year.
Odisha Tourism has three types of packages during the Bird Festival that includes night stay at Chilika, birding, boating, photography and nature walks.
