India’s May GST collection slips on month on regional lockdowns

India’s Goods and Service Tax collection slowed in May as many states imposed local lockdowns to curb the rising coronavirus pandemic in the country.

The gross GST revenue collected in the month of May 2021 was Rs 1,02,709 crore, a decline of 27.6% from a record of Rs 1.41 lakh crore in April.

However, the revenue was 65% higher from a year earlier.

This would be eighth month in a row that GST revenues have crossed Rs 1 lakh crore mark.

During the month, CGST was Rs 17,592 crore, SGST was Rs 22,653 crore, IGST was Rs 53,199 crore (including ₹26,002 crore collected on import of goods) and Cess was at Rs 9,265 crore.
