Odisha Cabinet has approved the construction of 89 multi-purpose indoor stadiums in the state to improve the sports infrastructure with an estimated cost of Rs 693.35 crore.
The government is aiming to finish the construction of this multi-purpose indoor stadiums in 18 months.
The state government has been encouraging sports in various ways. Odisha is also the sponsor of National Hockey team which won the bronze medal in recently concluded Tokyo Olympics.
These stadiums will help sports such as badminton, table tennis, weight-lifting, yoga and other sports.
Apart from encouraging the sportsmen in the state, this multi-purpose indoor stadiums will also act as shelters for people in natural calamities such as cyclone and flood. These constructions can withstand wind speed of 200 km per hour.
During pandemic situation, these will also act as makeshift hospitals.
