Odisha will waive off the fees for Class 10 exams in the state following the Covid-19 pandemic that affected the source of income of many poor parents.
This will benefit over 6 lakh students after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ordered to waive off the fees, the government said in a statement.
The state government will bear the expense of about Rs 27 crore towards this fee exemption. Every student pays Rs 420 to fill the form the Class 10 exam, which is also known as Matric exam.
The government allowed schools to reopen from January 8 for Class 10 and 12 students after being shut for nearly nine months.
